Addiction to alcohol and drugs is a disease that CAN be treated. We provide help for addicts, co-dependents, and their families who are suffering from the injustices of addiction. Our Alcohol and Drug Program provides a quality service that helps Indigenous people achieve a healthier and satisfying life free from alcohol and drug use including culturally appropriate treatment.
This position therefore requires the incumbent to be in good mental and physical health to be able to effectively serve the clients while keeping a healthy lifestyle. Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and a demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous people is a must. Strong preference will be given to individuals with an indigenous background as per section of Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.
We are looking for a One Full Time – Permanent employee and One Full Time – Temporary employee to cover a Maternity Leave until November 2019
For the Full Time Permanent position, trying to accommodate the preferences and needs of our clients, we will be giving preference to Males, since we are lucky to have great Female Counsellors on-board already.
This are positions that require a a very adaptable, high energy, empathetic individual with the capacity to being the main point of contact for our Counselling Services; working in a high-volume, often changing and emotionally stressful environment, with an individual able to provide just, equitable and culturally sensitive responses.
Among other duties, the A&D Counsellor facilitates triage and screening of all individuals seeking help through the Counselling Services. The incumbent conducts a risk assessment to determine the type of service needed and explains the services offered, providing relevant mental health education, recommending other forms of support, and discussing community service options. The incumbent works with individuals to provide culturally appropriate approach assessment and help them and their families through the process of rehabilitation and recovery from drug & alcohol.
The positions are based in Vancouver Down Town. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, this position will be subject to the policies and procedures of the Association and agreeing to join the British Columbia Government and Service Employees’ Union.
