An incredible opportunity to be “A Helping Hand to Justice” for the Indigenous people in the Northeast Region of B.C. has become available! The successful applicant will be covering Fort Saint John and Dawson Creek. Therefore, the ability and availability to travel by car between these communities is a must.
This is a position that requires a a very adaptable, high energy, empathetic individual with the capacity to assist indigenous adults and youth involved in the criminal justice system to obtain fair, just, equitable and culturally sensitive treatment, bridging the gap between the criminal justice system and the indigenous people.
Native Courtworkers require sound knowledge of of justice systems and their functions, sentencing principles, alternative measures and restorative justice practices as well as the ability to conduct specific forms of research covered by federal, municipal, and provincial legislation related to the needs of the client.

Native Courtworkers in B.C. belong to the B.C.GEU and the salary is in line with the Native Courtworker salary grid, which starts at $$45,132.46 per year. Among other benefits, you will have 3 weeks of holidays after your first year of work and will earn 1.5 sick days per month. You will also be eligible for extended medical and dental benefits, LTD, Life Insurance, AD&D and employer contribution towards your pension plan.
Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and a demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous people. Preference will be given to individuals with an indigenous background as per section of Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.
