October 14, 2024 – “Jacob Caouette is honored to assume the role of President at the Native Courtworker and Counselling Association of British Columbia (“NCCABC”). He succeeds the distinguished former President Hugh Braker, K.C., who dedicated over 25 years to the organization. During his six-year tenure on the NCCABC Board of Directors, Jacob played a pivotal role by serving on various committees and leading key initiatives that advanced the association’s mission.
Jacob is a proud graduate of the Peter A. Allard School of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree specializing in Indigenous Legal Studies. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of the Fraser Valley.
As the first person from his Nation, Sts’ailes, to practice law, Jacob was recently part of the legal team that helped secure a historic coordination agreement for child and family services between his Nation, Canada, and British Columbia.
Dedicated to advancing Indigenous rights, Jacob is committed to continuing the legacy of excellence established by Hugh Braker, K.C. In his new role, he looks forward to supporting NCCABC staff and strengthening the association’s vital role as a helping hand to justice. With over 50 years of service, NCCABC remains a trusted partner for communities and courts alike. Jacob is excited to lead the organization into its next chapter of impactful service and advocacy.”
